The MacBook Pro comes bundled with the Mac OS X operating system and features a pair of built-in stereo speakers. There are two primary methods that you can use to boost the volume coming out of your speakers on your MacBook Pro running Mac OS X: the dedicated volume keys on the keyboard and the volume settings in the 'System Preferences' panel.
Using the Keyboard
1.Press the “F10” key on your MacBook Pro’s keyboard to make sure your speakers are active. A speaker icon will appear on your screen. When the icon displays waves emanating outward, your speakers are active.
2.Press the “F12” key once to boost your MacBook Pro’s volume one level. The speaker icon will appear on your screen again. Below the icon you'll see a series of 16 squares, each representing one volume level on your MacBook Pro.
3.Hold down the “F12” key until your MacBook Pro is boosted to full volume. You'll know you're at full volume when all of the little squares under the speaker icon are white.
Using System Preferences
1.Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your MacBook Pro’s screen and select “System Preferences” from the drop-down menu that appears.
2.Click the icon labeled “Sound” under the “Hardware” tab.
3.Drag the 'Output Volume' slider at the bottom of the window all the way to the right to boost the audio output on your MacBook Pro to full volume. You can also boost the input volume of your computer's built-in microphone using this panel, if you'd like. To do this, click the 'Input' tab at the top of the window and drag the 'Input Volume' slider all the way to the right.
Tip
- Some multimedia applications, such as iTunes and VLC, have their own volume controls that let you further boost the audio output on your MacBook Pro.
Warning
- Some software developers sell programs and plugins that claim to boost the volume of your MacBook Pro’s speakers by large percentages. Be wary of claims that seem too good to be true. The maximum volume of your MacBook Pro’s speakers is limited by the hardware used in the computer. Attaching external speakers is the best way to get significantly louder volume out of your MacBook Pro.
